Handyman, Deck, Siding & Renovation Services in the Halifax Area, Nova Scotia

Some jobs do not need a big contracting company, just one capable person who shows up, does the work properly and cleans up afterwards. That is the idea behind Max Handyman, a handyman service serving the Halifax area of Nova Scotia. Its Facebook page describes the business as "skilled, reliable, detail-oriented and easy to work with," and a customer review there praises the work as fast, tidy and reasonably priced, finished in a single day.

• Home repairs and small fix-it jobs
• Deck building and deck stair rebuilds
• Siding repairs and installation
• Windows and doors
• Soffit and fascia
• Gutters
• Fencing
• Drywall and painting
• Roofing repairs
• Renovations, from small updates to full projects

Stairs: a good example

A recent Facebook post shows a deck stair rebuild, and it is a handy illustration of how this kind of work goes. Rotten treads and sagging stringers are a common problem in the Maritimes, where moisture and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on exterior wood. The fix usually starts with removing the old boards, checking the stringers and the footing, replacing whatever has failed and then rebuilding the steps level, solid and to a consistent rise so nobody trips. Photos of this kind of job, from open stringers to finished steps, are posted on the business's page.

Before you call

A few details make a quote quicker: a description of the problem, a couple of photos, rough measurements if it is a new build, and any timing you need. For anything involving structure, electrical or plumbing, ask whether a licensed tradesperson or a permit is required.
